Within
a few hours of the caravan rolling out, the cart carrying small,
empty casks driven by cooper Gebert
Nese’s 15-year-old apprentice Aemor, broke a wheel and brought the
train to a halt. Aemor’s cart was second in line after a wagon
loaded with construction tools, materials, and craftsmen who
immediately turned out to quickly repair
her cart.
In
short order the caravan was rolling again and took lunch on the wheel
to make up the small
amount of lost time,
as the cook from the construction wagon distributed hard biscuits,
cheese, and water amongst the caravaners.
Taking
note of the other vehicles in the convoy, the party observed a fancy,
black lacquered coach third in line, a small, covered cart with no
guards fourth, a wagon loaded with 15 pigs and sporting a small
shelter in the center of the bed fifth, and
finally, their own
charge, the Red Duck wagon carrying half a dozen large casks. Aemor’s
cart had a single guard and the construction wagon included one armed
guard in addition to several capable-looking laborers. Sybel, Ivor,
and Stephye, guarding the Red Duck wagon rounded out the caravan’s
protection.
Ivor
defended from with the pig cart’s cargo bed amongst the livestock,
killing two of the riderless wolves. From nearby, Sybel killed a
rider (one whose wolf was subsequently slain by Ivor in the pig
cart). Further toward the front of the train, Stephye took out two of
the riders and wounded one of the wolves.
In
less than a minute the fight was over and the surviving riders peeled
off. The riderless wolves abandoned the pig feast to follow suit.
